Also commonly known as the A.I. Assist.
The A.I. Buddy came to mind in the early nineties when we switched our herd over to artificial insemination. After a week, I realized how much more time it was taking to breed sows, especially after a long day in the fields. I knew that if I was going to continue to use artificial insemination, there was going to have to be a better and faster way. The idea came to me when I was watching my daughter fix her hair one morning. She was using this spring like C band to hold her hair back. It stretched out and came back and fit tight on her head. Seeing this was all it took to come up with the idea to make a product that would allow me to breed multiple animals all at once while eliminating the long hours it took to A.I. This concept is so much better than putting my 4 year old son on the sow’s back to hold the semen bottle while I bred another one. I referred to my 4 year old as my little A.I. Buddy, thus the name was born. The A.I. Buddy started selling itself once my vet ask me to build some for other clients of his and now you can find them world wide.
There are a lot of knock off’s of the A.I. buddy on the market today, so make sure they have the A.I. Buddy wording on them to guarantee they are the original Buddy.
    1. To assemble, insert the aluminum rod through the A.I. Buddy about 1". This is a tight fit, it will take some force.
    2. For stimulation, position a boar in front or beside the sows to be bred. REMEMBER, boar contact is the key.
    3. Position the A.I. Buddy over the flank area allowing the hook part of the aluminum rod to be above the tail. If the A.I. Buddy is loose, take the unit off and squeeze together to fit tighter over the flank.
    4. Insert the catheter into position and connect the semen bottle. Squeeze to get free flow. Rotating the catheter may be needed. Bend the catheter up and hook into the rod where the bottle and catheter join.
    5. NOTE, if the catheter is too short to bend up, move the A.I. Buddy back and tilt down to reach.
    6. It is recommended to use the catheter with the rubber handle, preventing the semen bottle from slipping off.
    7. Some of the semen bottles may require a hole poked to enable the sow to draw the bottle empty.

    4. Insert the catheter and connect the semen bag as you normally would. Bend the catheter up and slip it into the hook part of the rod where the bag and catheter join. NOTE, the catheter should fit tight into the hook. Squeeze or spread the hook with pliers to achieve this. Once hooked take one of the top holes of the bag and slip over the top part of the rod. This part of the bag may also be bent for proper alignment of the bag and catheter.
